Ocean Is Theory to Play The Galaxy January 5th

Ocean Is Theory

Atlanta based Ocean Is Theory is currently on tour in support of their new EP "Future Fears" which was released on Razor and Tie Records, and will be making a stop at Galaxy CDS January 5th as part of a huge show.

Formed in 2007, Ocean Is Theory is an Indie band success story in the making.  "Into the Mouths Of Lions", the band's first self released EP launched them in the southeastern US, and went on to sell over 6000 copies.  Those kind of numbers, and a rapidly growing fan base, caught the attention of both retailers and labels, leading to the band's signing with Razor and Tie.

The track "Underneath" from "Future Fears" was recently added by Apple as a pre-loaded song to all I-Pods sold in the US Apple stores according to the band's recent post on Twitter, which will surely lead to much bigger things.  Be sure to come out and see them in what promises to be an outstanding show, and one of the last times you may be able to catch them in a smaller venue before they blow up. You can learn more about them at

The Orphan, The Poet

Joining this show is another rapidly rising band, Dayton's The Orphan, The Poet.  With tracks licensed to Sparks Beverage Company, a track on the Pure Volume 2010 holiday sampler, and a place in SmartPunk's Top 40 Unsigned bands, not to mention over 30,000 fans on ReverbNation, The Orphan, The Poet is poised to also hit the big time.  The group has produced multiple EP's, the most recent being "Translating", which you can read about and sample at Alter The Press!  This is TOTP's second outing at the Galaxy, and is another band that will likely soon be too big to be seen at a smaller venue.  Be here so you can say you saw them before they were huge!

Rounding out the biggest show to hit the Galaxy to date will be Let It Happen, Belle Histoire, and Remember When, three fantastic Cincinnati based bands.  This show is Thursday night at 7pm, and is ALL AGES!  Admission is just $5.00.

It Was A Good Year

I suppose that many who have followed our saga may find it hard to imagine I'd categorize 2011 as a good year.  Sales were down, to the point that we announced the closing of the store around Labor Day.  And then, we kind of sort of unannounced it, and through the efforts of a dedicated group of friends, began a transition into something different, and maybe better.

We've been hosting in-store shows off and on for years, and now as we move forward it's our primary focus.  And man have we already had some fantastic bands in here, from as far away as Texas, Chicago, and New Jersey.  We kicked it off in January with No No Knots, who put on a great show, and then disbanded in April, much to the dismay of Cincinnati music fans.

In March Brothers Fighting played a ridiculous set here in one of their only live performances.  July absolutely ruled, with The Orphan, The Poet and Hands On The Stereo blowing our faces off on one show, and the incomparable O'Brother playing an amazing unplugged set one afternoon.  Let Me Run made us one of their August tour stops, and Gates left us all in awe later in the month.

 Brothers Fighting Bringing It!

Trees Above Mandalay rocked our September, and then it got crazy in October.  What I think most people would agree was our show of the year took place for the Night of Sweet Relief event.  Mixtapes, Old Worlds, Army Coach, Merely The Mocs, The Yugos, and 6 Years Later made it a night to remember.  And later in the month The Shanks just killed!

The Insanity That Was The Shanks

November was another huge month, with six events.  Driftless Pony Club, personal highlight A Social State, who gave us a cd we haven't taken out of our player in 2 months, Laura K. Balke, Kate Haralson & The Martins, and WolfCryer all gave us great shows.  December saw amazing shows by Aquariums, Set The Stage, Vanattica, Yankee Go Home, and an absolutely stunning set from Front Porch Revival.  And these are just a handful of samples, I can't begin to list all of the stellar bands that played throughout the year, nor can I thank them, and you, enough.

With all of that, how can you call it anything other than a good year?  And with your help, 2012 will be even better.  We've already got 8 events planned for January alone, with amazing artists ranging from Ocean is Theory to Belle Histoire, Sinatra, Au Revoir, and the return of The Orphan The Poet, WolfCryer and more.  So save some of that Christmas money for some of our $5.00 shows, check out the full schedule here, and come hang out and listen to some of the best music you'll hear anywhere, right here in Hamilton!
